“In my grief, Rory made absolutely sure that I knew she was by my side,” explained Ms. Carryer, who graduated from Stanford and gained three master’s degrees: one in library science from the University of Illinois, another in wonderful arts from the College of Victoria and a different, in education, from the University of California, Berkeley.

“Rory did not check out to fix the condition or speak it away,” Ms. Carryer stated. “She was just there for me, and when that happened I believed, ‘This is the man or woman I want to go through the really hard moments with.’”
